For the month of September we’re thrilled to partner with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer, in their fight to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. For this special partnership we dug through our archives and re-issued a few of our all-time favorite classics so you can show your support in style.
But that’s just the beginning, this fall we’re raising the sails as a national sponsor of the Leukemia Cup Regatta series, a thrilling series of sailing events that combines the joy of boating with the important task of raising money to cure cancer. The events give us a chance to once again team up with sailing’s preeminent ambassador, lymphoma survivor and previous vineyard vines profilee, Gary Jobson who serves as national regatta chairman.
Having fun and giving back all at the same time—It’s what vineyard vines is all about!

This weekend, we’ll be helping sponsor two great sailing events!
The Vineyard Race is a 238 mile race which attracts the best sailors and the fastest boats in the area. The event starts on Friday and ends when the last boat returns to Stamford, CT. More then 85 boats signed up so far, and everyone is watching the weather very closely (Hurricane Earl could make for an interesting race!). We’re excited that this will be out third year as a sponsor! Each Captain will be receiving a vineyard vines® tote bag full of race information and goodies from all the sponsors.
This will be our first year as a sponsor of the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association Annapolis Race Week. We donated shirts for the Race Committee and Volunteers to wear and custom vineyard vines Race Week merchandise will be sold in the tent during the weekend. The races start on Saturday and finish up on Monday the 6th.

We’d like to introduce you to Danah Ford Bordner, an up and coming golfer that we’ve been proud to sponsor for the past 2 years. Danah, a graduate of Indiana University currently competes on the FUTURES tour and has her sights set on making the LPGA tour. We love seeing Danah sport the whale on the golf course, and wish her continued success in her golfing career!

Last year when we were shooting our catalog down in Annapolis, the unofficial sailing capital of the world, we were hoping to introduce you to sailing’s preeminent ambassador, Gary Jobson. Unfortunately, Gary was otherwise occupied—he’s a busy guy (the man could practically make a second career just out of receiving awards and having his picture taken on boats)—but that comes with the territory when you have sailing credentials like his. Gary is a former collegiate All-American, college sailing coach, and winner of the America’s Cup (as tactician for Ted Turner) and many other ocean races, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. He’s also authored over 16 sailing books, served as editor-at-large for Sailing World and Cruising World magazines, led expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctica, spoken to businesses and yacht clubs (he’s given over 2000 lectures), worked on-camera for ESPN, NBC and PBS as a sailing analyst and commentator (a gig that gave him another distinction seldom heard in the sailing world: Emmy winner) and has been a frequent guest on our friend Scott Franz’s boat Ticonderoga where we often run into him.
One of Gary’s latest endeavors, serving as national chairman of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Leukemia Cup Regatta series, reflects another one of his most recent titles: lymphoma survivor. The Leukemia Cup events bring together two of our favorite things—giving back and having fun out on the water—so we decided to come aboard as sponsors. We’re also joining forces with them as our Tied to a Cause partner for September, so stay tuned for details in the coming weeks.

Our friends over at Oldport Marine in Newport Harbor, Rhode Island recently ran a boat shuttle to the Newport Jazz and Newport Folk festivals. See if you can spot the whale on the boats!

Rob from WhatsUpMartha gives a recap of this past weekend’s kitesurfing event on Martha’s Vineyard!
This past weekend, vineyard vines and WhatsUpMartha teamed up again to put on a series of Kitesurfing races on Martha’s Vineyard. The event was titled “Kite the Whale” and competitors soared through the air and across the water on a burly and windy day. Prizes and giveaways were provided for the racers and their ages ranged from 25 to 65 years old!
For the spectators of the event, custom vineyard vines corn-hole boards were provided for their use and enjoyment. Although, it does get a bit tricky tossing a corn-hole bean bag in 16 knot wind! Despite all of this, there was nothing but smiles from the spectators and competitors as it’s always a good time with WhatsUpMartha and vineyard vines, especially huddled under a vineyard vines tent!
The sport of kitesurfing is growing at a fast clip on Martha’s Vineyard and many other coastal areas along the East Coast. vineyard vines is excited to be a part of yet another “sailing” community and supporting the sport as it grows in popularity. Martha’s Vineyard has become a desired destination for many kiters as the layout of the island supports plenty of areas to sail.
Check out more photos from the event here!
